Wd My Passport For Mac Not Readable

10.09.2018

I am in DESPERATE need of help with my Mac specific WD Passport hard drive. I have been storing ALL MY PHOTOS of my travels since 2005 on this hard drive, and while attempting to upload to Dropbox recently (to create a back up online that couldn't be lost!), I moved my MacBook slightly and the hard drive disconnected briefly (during the upload). Now every time I connect the hard drive, an error message appears saying 'The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer'. I then click on initialize which takes me to the Disk Utility. I have tried using the Disk Utility (as the hard drive shows up in the left bar), but haven't been successful. If I click on 'verify' - it says that the disk needs to be repaired.

When I click on 'repair', it gives me the following details: Verify and Repair volume “disk1s3” Checking file systemChecking Journaled HFS Plus volume. Invalid record count Catalog file entry not found for extent The volume could not be verified completely. Volume repair complete.Updating boot support partitions for the volume as required.Error: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk.

Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files. Then the Disk Utility stops and gives me the final message: Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.

WD My Passport Ultra External Harddrive Not Readable thomasgibson Mar 7, 2016, 4:44 AM Hello, My Passport external drive rotates within the case and makes a ticking sound (initially) when. Hi everybody, My lady friend has a Western Digital Passport (Mac. The drive has become unreadable on her two Apple Mac computers which.

Now, I would LOVE to back up my files - I just don't know how to access them if my computer can't read them. I have changed the USB cable - and still no change. I can hear the hard drive firing up, but after a while it just stops completely. Please, please, please can someone help me with some good advice??? I'm talking about years and years of memories!

Mac entourage. I am really hoping for some good news that I can get all my photos off this hard drive - I really don't care if I can't use the hard drive itself again, I just want all my beautiful memories back!! Thank you in advance - I look forward to your reply. Warm Regards, Liz. I am in DESPERATE need of help with my Mac specific WD Passport hard drive. I know this is old but if u have been taking out your hard drive by just unplugging it like your used to in windows than that was the problem.

You should be able to go into Disk Utility and locate your hard drive name there,, Then Click 'repair' it will go through a few little things and then presto its fixed. You shouldn't loose a thing,, It happens to my WD passport all the time and i was scared because i had my music backed up because I'm a dj. Well anyway good luck.

I used my external 1 TB hard drive (WD My Passport) yesterday. Then just recently this happened.

After I unlocked my hard drive an error pops up. When I click 'Initialize' this is the result. I also did include a screenshot of my WD My Passport info. I can't even find it in the sidebar. I also did a 'diskutil list' I can see it there but I can't seem to open it. I already did update my WD Drive Utilities, WD Security.

Shutdown and Restart my mac but still nothing worked. Any idea how will this be fixed?

Erasing my hard drive is NOT an option since I have all my work files here which are very important. Additional info: I installed a software called 'Parallels Desktop' but I still could use my hard drive on that point. But I'm not sure what really is the cause on all of this.

Thanks to those who can help. I'm having this same issue with a WD My Passport external hard drive as well. Mine is a little different scenario in that this hard drive was one I had used to back up an old eMac computer with my files and it has been sitting in my closet for a few years or so and I just pulled it out to try and get some files off of it and I get the same error you reported.

I too tried to do the Repair and First Aid in Disk Utility but it wouldn't work. I was wondering if you ever were able to resolve this issue with your external hard drive? If so, what did you do to resolve it? I really don't want to lose all those old files that are on it. Both of these instances seem like what appears when a disk has a catastrophic hardware failure. Are these spinning hard drives?
