I use Outlook to send/receive Gmail in the same Outlook client that handles my business email which runs through SharePoint. On Sunday I started getting the following error message in Outlook: Microsoft Outlook Your IMAP server wants to alert you to the following: Message too large. Outlook has not synched with Gmail since the problem started. On Monday Outlook stopped receiving/sending Gmail. Today, Tuesday, it appears to be affecting the performance of my business account. Today I deleted an email I sent on Sunday, the day the problem presented itself, that had 18 photos with about 20M total data. Well below the 25M limit.

Deleting the email with photos did not resolve the problem. All email attachments the past few weeks have been under 2M. Why am I getting the error? Will deleting a specific email resolve the problem? How do I locate the file that is too big?

Deleting the account in Outlook and then recreating it did clear the problem. It took a long time to synchronize (over a day due to lots of email), but everything appears to be current.

One tip I want to pass along is how to restore subfolders that cannot be recreated with filters. I have several subfolders that, due to the nature of the contents, contacted emails that were manually put into them. I had no practical way to identify the emails from the past two years of inbox items. So, what I did was to export the subfolders to a PST file before deleting the account. Immediately upon recreating the account, I imported the PST with the subfolders back into Outlook. Outlook synchronized the subfolders right away which prevented duplicate copies from appearing in my Inbox.
