Powerpoint 2008 For Mac Hangs Up

30.10.2018

Problem: PowerPoint Slideshow Freezes on a Slide. Maybe they just popped up for a few milliseconds and there is no evidence after the startup of it, but still, they took away the focus of the slideshow. And after that, your slideshow is still visible on your screen, but it is hanging now and not advancing to the next slide.

Hello, Since updating to MacOS Sierra 10.12.5 a couple of weeks ago, whenever I use Powerpoint for Mac 2011, it crashes. All the time. I get a message saying sorry, it needs to close - information gets sent to Microsoft - and then the documents all close and automatically re-open again moments later. It means I have to save documents every few seconds, because this happens something like a dozen (or more) times each hour! Any advice would be enormously appreciated - I'm self employed and rely on Powerpoint for my business. Good evening Jane. A warm welcome to Mac-Forums.

Clearly, there is something amiss. I, too, am running macOS Sierra 10.12.5 and having no problems with Office for Mac, 2011. Firstly, the obvious, just check that you have the latest update/version of Office - 14.7.4.

Updates to Office are fairly regular, like, once or twice per month. And I'm sure you will have rebooted your Mac - surprising what that will solve.

Whilst you're replying to that, have you a Backup strategy in place? Stick with us, we'll do our best to solve this. I know this doesn't help, but might I suggest getting Office 365? It's $99 per year but you should be able to expense that as a business expense. If you get the Home version, you can put it on up to 5 Macs or PCs and 5 mobile devices, for a total of 10. Each version upgrade you can do for no additional charge.

When the game loads, click or tap anywhere on the play area to begin the action.

Of course you can save to previous version. I actually have two Office 365 because in our household, we have 8 Macs or PCs and each install gets 1TB OneDrive space and at least one 60 minutes of Skype. Have you kept the updates regular?

Go into Excel or Word and under Help, run Check for Updates. I know you said Power Point, but Check for Updates will check all your Microsoft software. If you have done that and it still crashes, I'd suggest Office 365 Home. Thank you to all three of you - it feels rather miraculous to get advice like this! To answer your questions, Ian, yes I have 14.7.4 and yes, sadly I have already tried rebooting! My Powerpoints are very large, but that never used to be a problem before upgrading to Sierra 10.12.5 - and now, even when I divide them into shorter individual Ppts, they still crash within seconds of my scrolling down the slides. I do fairly often back up, though haven't for the last two weeks, so perhaps should now!
