Ok TeamViewer for windows has an VPN option as well. Sometimes I dont need remote desktop but just to use the home PC as a VPN server so my laptop traffic is safe when accessing from open wifis. What I wanted to say is that Mac OS X itself already included a VPN server and client, although to setup the server is slightly painful as it requires you to configure and start the server from the terminal. On the other hand, the OS X Server software ($20) has a GUI interface to the VPN server and thus makes server configuration simpler. The Server.app also allows for client configuration files to me emailed to clients in order to setup the VPN client (although client setup is actually fairly straightforward to do manually).
