How Much Ram Parallels Windows For Mac

Boot Camp is built into macOS, and supports Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7, depending on the age of the host Mac. If you’re running a Mac built in 2012 or later, you should be set for Windows 10.

Hey guys, I have a slight dilemma. I recently ordered a refurbished Mid-2014 13' rMBP with 8GB of RAM. I'm not a very intensive user, so I thought 8GB of RAM would be good for the 2-3 years that I plan to hang on to the laptop. I'm starting to have second thoughts however; my ideal use case would be to run Microsoft Office and Excel in Parallels. I would have this open the majority of the time, using both Mac apps and the Office for Windows apps side by side. Is 8GB of Ram enough for this use case? How much RAM would I dedicate to the VM to make sure it runs smoothly?
If I had to dedicate 4GB to the VM, is the remaining 4 enough for OSX? That is an incredibly reasonable reason to use the Windows version then. There are some cool extra things that it can do that the Mac version cannot, but looking at how Microsoft has been pushing their products onto other operating systems to well recently, that may change one day. 8GB might be reasonable. It is all I use and I do some rather intensive stuff with my virtual machine. 16GB will serve you better, but if you turn off some of the visuals on Office and what not, 8GB can keep you going for a while.
