The cheapest way into Snow Leopard server is the Mac mini server for US$1000. You can then buy Snow Leopard client for US$30 and resell the machine (easily over US$800) which leaves you with Snow Leopard server for around US$200 (or less if you can sell the Mac mini hardware for more) instead of its list price of US$500 stand alone.

I can't speak for SWH, but Tiger is especially beneficial to developers like me. The change between Tiger and Leopard was quite significant (comparable to the change between Windows XP and Windows Vista). Because of these differences, a whole lot of programs (VirtualBox for example) only work for Leopard or higher. The problem is, a huge percentage of Mac users are still using Tiger (just like a large number of Windows users are still using XP), so to have the widest client-base possible, it is essential to be able to test on Tiger as well.

A Tiger Server guest in Virtual Box is a powerful tool, and for me certainly worth the cost. Posts: 25 Joined: 9. Because I own it (inherited it free & legal) and can use it on my four cpu home network running on an iMac. I only want it in VBox so I can use Classic on my MacBook Pro. If I can get Tiger cheap I'd do it, but it doesn't look like Tiger Server comes cheap. Cheers, SWH Are you talking about classic as in running the classic mode (Mac OS 9) inside panther? I ask because if thats your goal you can just use sheepshaver emulator to run Mac OS 9 in essentially the same way as classic did on PowerPC Macs, I actually do this to run Mac OS 9 on my Macbook running Snow Leopard, it's fast and stable for me.

SS got a little wiggy for me under Snow Leopard. What build are you using? I'm also hoping to find a solution that will work when 10.7 comes out.

I did a little basic research, and of course the joke would have been on me if I'd gone out and bought Tiger Server Intel: it doesn't support classic. Thanks for the link to the Sheepshaver build - it seems to be working just fine.
